Diane CookOur business is founded on the basis of tea time traditions and the happy and comforting memories they can evoke. The whole ethos of Constance Wallace is designed to encourage friends and family to enjoy spending time together.

Diane Cooke founder of Constance Wallace studied Printed Textiles at Birmingham City University, before completing her Master’s degree where she became intrigued by the importance of objects to the triggering of memories. After the death of her father, Diane and her sisters provided tea and sustenance to her father’s family and friends. Over the serving of tea Diane heard lots of snippets of stories of her father’s life and after everyone had left she gathered up all the teabags that had been used to make the tea, dried them all out, bundled them together with string and stitched forget me knots onto them. This was when the real importance and sentiment of tea and family was realised.

The business name Constance Wallace derived from her mother and father’s christian names, and Peggy the vintage car used to deliver the parties was named in memory of her first dog that lived to be 17 years old.

“Tea has always been around in my life. When I was very young I remember visiting my grandad’s house for tea, and having my own special blue and white cup and saucer. I can remember Sunday teas with aunts and uncles, where the table was always laid with a cloth and set out with mums best china and laden with sandwiches cake and trifle. We always drank tea, never coffee and from as early as I can remember my lovely mum used to bring me a cup of tea in bed every morning to help wake me up. I am so lucky that my lovely husband has continued this trend and I am still treated to a lovely hot cup of tea every morning!
